5 reasons why you should attend Open Day

Open Day 2018 Griffith University Griffith International

Each year, Griffith welcomes the public to its Open Day to experience all that Griffith has to offer. Griffith Open Day is an exciting chance for future and current students, together with their family and friends, to learn more about the campuses, facilities, programs, opportunities and services offered at Griffith University. It is also the perfect opportunity for those, who have not visited the campuses previously, to tour around the grounds freely or on a guided tour. Here are my 5 reasons why Griffith Open Day is a must-attend event!

1. Discover a variety of study options

It can get confusing when you are trying to choose a program to study, especially if there are a number of programs you are interested in. Open Day will provide you with insight into different programs, which will help you to make the best decision about your future. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and talk directly with friendly admissions staff. Tip for school leavers: if possible, prepare yourself with an OP prediction ahead of Open Day, which can help staff to tailor their advice for you. You can also learn about other pathways to study to help you gain admission into your chosen degree.

2. Learn more about your degree

In 2018, there were over 240 information sessions held at Open Days across the Gold Coast, Nathan and South Bank campuses. Attending the information sessions hosted by different schools provides you with valuable insights into the degrees on offer. Use the Open Day planning website to plan out the sessions you want to attend to maximise your Open Day experience. Any clashes or missed a session? No drama! Take the opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation with the different schools’ academic staff and current students at the pop-up booths. There is no better way to learn about the degree of your interest than talking to the course convenors and current students.

3. Explore the facilities and services

As a current university student, I can assure you that university is full of challenges. However, various support services are available on campus to make your life and student experience much easier. Be sure to check out Griffith’s Student Services and talk to one of the friendly staff, who can provide you with information about the different services available. Do not forget to check out the libraries and other campus facilities. The Student Guild (Gold Coast) and the friendly Griffith Mates run campus tours frequently.

Be sure to sign up for a tour in advance as they tend to book out fast! As an international student, you will also have the opportunity to meet Griffith International admissions staff and attend the international student information session to find out everything you need to know about studying at Griffith, including the application process, student support and career opportunities.

4. Experience a taste of campus life

Academic life can be stressful, especially during exam time. However, there are many diverse and exciting extracurricular activities held on campus throughout the trimester. The quantity and variety of student-run clubs on campus will amaze you. It doesn’t matter whether you are a book worm or a sport junkie, one of the cultural and sports clubs will be sure to get your attention. At Open Day, you can talk to the students who currently run the clubs – I guarantee you will find one you love.

5. Meet potential friends

The number of people attending Open Day each year is enormous. Many of them are in the same situation as you. Don’t be shy! Take the opportunity to talk to others when you have the opportunity. People you meet at Open Day could become your friends or study partner at university!

So there you have my top 5 reasons on why you should attend Open Day, whether you are a new or current student! Keep an eye out for details about Open Day 2019 on the Griffith website here and check out the highlights from this year’s Open Day in the video below.
