Christmas in Australia may not be a winter wonderland, but we still know how to make it magical.

Brisbane will be abuzz this silly season with a cracking line-up of Christmas events sure to make even the biggest Grinch get into the Christmas spirit. #MerryBrismas

Planning on sticking around the city this Christmas? Check out our top five fun and free things to get you into the Christmas spirit – Aussie style.

Lighting of the Christmas tree

In Queensland, we like things big – the Big Pineapple … the Big Banana … and our Christmas tree! This 22-metre beauty of a tree will be dressed in thousands of twinkling fairy lights. Don’t worry if you miss the official lighting, it will be sparkling away right up to Christmas Day.

When and where: 6.30 pm, 30 November 2018. King George Square, Brisbane City.

Christmas Gift Markets

Pick up some unique handmade gifts to send back home at South Bank’s Christmas markets. Complete with fairy lights, real Christmas trees and festive decorations, the markets are a must-do. Also at South Bank you will find nightly carol performances, free movies, live music and fireworks.

When and where: 3.00 pm – 10.00 pm, 14 – 23 December. South Bank Parklands.

Lord Mayor’s Christmas carols

You can’t have Christmas without carols, right?! More than 500 of Brisbane’s best performers will light up the Riverstage with your favourite carols. Bring a rug and a picnic hamper and join in the festivities as the sun sets over the river.

When and where: 7 – 9 pm, 8 December. Riverstage, City Botanic Gardens

Christmas Fireworks Spectacular

South Bank is set to countdown to Christmas Day with a bang! Watch the Brisbane River come alive while stunning fireworks dance in the night sky above.

When and where: From 8 pm, 20 – 23 December. South Bank Parklands.

Enchanted Garden

See Roma Street Parklands in all their glory at night with this stunning light experience. Meander through the winding pathways among beautiful plants, trees and flowers and the most beautiful light displays.

When and where: 6.30 pm – 10.30 pm, from 7 December 2018. Roma Street Parklands.
