Searching for a beach retreat after the scorching heatwave that hit Brisbane this month? Keen to try a beach beyond the Gold Coast? Look no further than Moreton Island! Located 40km offshore from Brisbane, take a quiet 70-90 minute journey by ferry to the white, sandy beaches.
While you are there, be sure to explore, either by kayak or on a snorkelling adventure, the wrecks around the coast that form a perfect habitat for aquatic life. Relax in the Blue Lagoon or swim at one of the many beaches like the one at Honeymoon Bay. If you’d rather remain dry, go sand boarding down the world’s largest coastal sand dune or check out the historically significant Rous Battery.
If you are looking for something a little more adventurous, take a hike to Mt Tempest and Cape Moreton Lighthouse or follow in my footsteps and try circumnavigating the island on foot. The circumnavigation covered a total of 97.5 Km and took only four days. Read more about it here.
No need to worry about accommodation as Moreton Island is covered in beautiful camping spots. It offers glamping (luxurious camping) opportunities and unit rental or you can stay at the beautiful Tangalooma Island Resort. For more information about transport, accommodation or activities, visit the Moreton Island Adventures website.
