Mpho’s story: arriving at Griffith University

Last year I had the opportunity to work with the amazing Mpho, a South African student on an Australia Awards scholarship about to graduate from her Master of Public Health at our South Bank campus.

We often hear all the wonderful stories about orientation and study at Griffith – and don’t get me wrong it is a great experience – but the reality is that the arriving in a new country for the very first time can be daunting and overwhelming. When we caught up, Mpho shared her arrival story and the challenges that she faced as she started a new chapter of her life at Griffith University. You can watch her video below:

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Mpho and hear her story. I only wish we could have included more in our video – Mpho had so many great stories to tell about her life and her Griffith experience. If you’re new to Griffith and are struggling to find your feet, don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are heaps of great support services on campus and if you’re an international student, make sure to make an appointment with an International Student Advisor.
