Tips for a top day at Movie World

Ghoul statue at Movie World

I am a massive fan of theme parks, and luckily Queensland’s Gold Coast is home to a whole string of them – Warner Bros. Movie World, Dreamworld, Wet ‘n’ Wild, Sea World – there is something to suit everybody. My favourite by far is Movie World, a theme park that hosts a range of attractions based upon various Warner Bros. characters and movies – take a wander around the park and you could find yourself making friends with Bugs Bunny, helping the Mystery Gang and Scooby Doo solve a mystery and, if he’s not busy saving Gotham City, you may even get the chance to pose for a photo with Batman. Lots of thought has clearly gone into each of the major rides and I found that each has a story that assisted to fully immerse myself into the experience – whether you are being rescued by Superman, attempting to escape from an exploding mine in America’s wild west, or helping the Justice League save the world – Movie World ensures that a roller coaster is so much more than just impressive twists and turns.

If you need a break from all the rollercoasters you can call into the Harry Potter store.

Here are my top 5 picks for the major rides at Movie World

1. Superman Escape

My favourite roller coaster, the Superman Escape takes you on a perilous journey through Metropolis City’s subway system which is in the grips of an earthquake, complete with burst water mains and car park cave-ins. It looks like all is lost until Superman appears to save the day, whisking you on an adventure and out of danger. The roller coaster propels you from 0 – 100 kilometres in 2 seconds, definitely not one for the faint-hearted!

2. Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster

If you are after something a little less intense, this ride is a must do. Inspired by the live-action Scooby Doo movie filmed on the Gold Coast, this ride is set inside a spooky castle complete with ghouls, gargoyles and spiders, and the sound effects and animatronics are sure to give you a fright as your cart navigates itself through the dark!

3. Arkham Asylum

This ride impressed me from the minute I stepped into the queue which winds through Arkham Asylum, a mental institution in Gotham City overrun by the infamous Joker and his evil accomplices. Then there is the roller coaster itself – fast, super sharp twists and upside down turns that I guarantee will have you screaming!

4. Wild West Falls Adventure Ride

This ride transports into a Western film at the height of the gold rush. This water based ride takes you on a journey through Native American reservations and ghost towns and into the heart of a dangerous mine on the verge of explosion. Naturally, the only way out is a steep drop that sends you crashing back to freedom – be warned, I got soaked!

5. Justice League 3D – The Ride: While this ride might not have loop-the-loops or breakneck speed, it is a whole lot of fun! Don some 3D glasses and use your laser blaster to compete with your friends as you assist the Justice League to defeat an alien invasion, I had so much fun on this ride (perhaps because I won).

Have you had a fun experience at Movie World? Have you been to an amazing theme park? I would love to hear from you.
