5 reasons why I don’t regret studying at Griffith University

Hello! My name is Novita, and I’m an international student from Indonesia studying at Griffith University in Australia. I know that choosing a university can be a little overwhelming at times, especially when thinking about studying in a new country! It’s hard to know if you are making the right choice for you, so after completing my first trimester at Griffith University I thought I would share five reasons I don’t regret my choice.

1. The quality of the education

One of the main reasons I chose to study at Griffith University was its reputation for academic excellence, and I have not been disappointed in my learning experience so far! I have enjoyed learning in practical, hands-on environments and being taught to think outside of the box.

The University consistently ranks among the top institutions in Australia and globally in some areas, including tourism and hospitality management, nursing, dentistry, law, education, and computer science.

I can’t wait to become a proud Griffith University alumnus!

2. Support available on campus

I was really impressed by the amount of effort Griffith puts into supporting students’ mental health, wellbeing and safety. They go above and beyond to help us build connections with other students and find our place in our new lives abroad. There are so many initiatives across the campuses, from Market Days to get a cheap meal and listen to live music to mindfulness activities to provide a break from your studies.

One of my favourite activities so far has been the “Tuesday Cook Ups,” which are a wonderful opportunity for students from different programs to come together, share a free meal, and discuss their day. I have met so many friends from attending this event throughout the trimester. These gatherings not only provide a sense of community but also promote mental health and wellbeing among students.

There are a range of services that run these events, including the What’s On at Griffith team at Nathan, the Student Guild at the Gold Coast and of course, the Griffith Mates who host events across both campuses.

3. State-of-the-art study facilities

The study facilities at Griffith University are nothing short of impressive. I initially didn’t expect to spend so much time in the library, but it quickly became one of my favourite places on campus. The library is well-equipped with everything you need for your studies, making it a perfect spot for revising class content or working on assignments. It’s not uncommon to find the library bustling with students at all hours (yes, it’s open 24/7!), which shows its popularity and the quality of the resources available.

For those who prefer a change of scenery, there are plenty of outdoor spots with comfortable beanbags where you can soak up the sun while studying, and beautiful cafes scattered across the campuses.

4. A vibrant and inclusive community

One of the things I love most about Griffith University is its vibrant and inclusive community. The campus is home to a diverse mix of students from all over the world, and there are so many clubs and societies where you can find like-minded individuals and make lasting friendships. This diversity creates a welcoming environment where everyone can find a place to belong.

Taking part in various activities and group clubs has allowed me to meet some of the most diverse and welcoming individuals, making my time at Griffith truly memorable!

5. The beautiful Queensland location

The cherry on top is Griffith’s fantastic location in Queensland, which is known in Australia as the Sunshine State for its beautiful weather. Studying on the Gold Coast is like having a year-round holiday. The area is famous for its stunning sandy beaches, like those at Burleigh and Surfers Paradise, lush rainforests in Springbrook National Park, and many exciting theme parks.

The perfect weather all year round makes it easy to balance studies with outdoor adventures, so there is the chance to mix education and leisure. Whether you’re surfing, hiking, or just relaxing by the beach, the Gold Coast is a backdrop that makes studying at Griffith University a unique experience.

These are just a few of the reasons why I am glad I chose to study at Griffith. The combination of top-notch education, a supportive campus life, exceptional facilities, a welcoming community, and an unbeatable location make it a truly exceptional place to pursue my degree.

That’s my top 5 reasons why I am so happy I chose to study at Griffith University. I can’t wait for you to discover so many more reasons to love Griffith University!
