Marlon Alexander landed in Australia in early 2020 to undertake a Study Abroad experience and complete a number of his Business degree courses at Griffith University. Marlon has now returned home to Germany, however before he left he shared his experiences in Australia with us.
‘I chose to study at Griffith because of the beautiful region around Southern Queensland, the relaxed Australian culture and the flexibility the university offered me regarding my choice of course options. Both cities – Brisbane and the Gold Coast, have so much to offer for international students such as a vibrant city area, stunning beaches and various opportunities for a great student life. Griffith University offers a lot of activities and trips for international students such as city tours guided by the Griffith Mates or a trip to Byron Bay which have made my stay in Australia an unforgettable experience.’
Commenting on the transition to online learning, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Marlon told us, ‘Because of the time difference after my return to Germany, studying online was quite a challenge for me. However, Griffith made it possible to study online with a lot of flexibility and all the content as well as assessment items were accessible for me. All the course convenors were very helpful and understanding in regards to the situation of the international students. They were always available for questions and gave a lot of advice for assignments or exams.’
Marlon also made the most of Griffith’s support services. ‘Griffith Mates offered a lot of activities while I was in Australia. The Griffith Global Mobility office as well as the course convenors could help me if there were any questions or requests regarding assignments or problems occurring while studying from abroad. I stayed connected with a lot of my fellow international students and I am looking forward to visiting them one day.’
‘The highlight of my Griffith experience was the trip to Byron Bay organised for international students by the Griffith Global Mobility team. On this trip I met a lot of new friends who I spent the following weeks with. Moreover, Byron Bay was beautiful and (including kayaking, surfing and skydiving) definitely an experience which I wouldn’t want to have missed out on.’
