If you ever have any student life questions or are simply looking for an awesome space to hang out and study in, check out the Gold Coast Student Hub.
The Hub is where international and domestic students can get useful advice and receive amazing help in addition to the services provided at Griffith University. The Hub’s main motto is all about having and sending ‘Good Vibes Only’, as living and studying on the Gold Coast is the most incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience.
At the Hub, you can connect with like-minded international and domestic students and learn more about Australia and other cultures. The Hub also provides free Wi-Fi, so you can use the space to study in.
The building where the Hub is located has a special history. Before becoming a crossroad of cultural diversity in the heart of Southport, The Residence (which is the name of the building hosting the Hub) was the home of Southport postmasters from the early 1900s to the late 1960s. From 1967 to 2017, it was used as a Maternal and Child Welfare Centre. Needless to say, The Residence has always been a place of connection for people!
Nowadays, the Hub is surrounded by restaurants (including Mr P.P.’s Deli which I highly recommend for their pizza and fries!), Australia Fair Shopping Centre and Chinatown. Last but not least, you don’t have to stress about how to get to the Hub because it is located in front of the Southport Tram Station. Easy access to the tram and the many bus stops surrounding the Hub, means getting to it is simple.
If you ever feel lonely or want something fun and productive to do, make sure to join some of the events and workshops held throughout the year. From social events to practical workshops on how to improve your communication skills and put together your resume and cover letter, the Hub has everything you need to help you make the most of your time in Australia. The events offer great opportunities to network and also give you a chance to connect with potential employers!
If you are a new student, the Hub can help you as soon as you arrive at the Gold Coast to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your first weeks in Australia.
You can also get advice from independent counsellors at the Hub, who can help you with anything related to your health and wellbeing, or your study experience on the Gold Coast and across Queensland.
The Career Support Office is another initiative of the Hub and helps guide students on what they can do after graduation, and how they can improve their employability.
So, if you ever have doubts about anything related to your student life and experience, or are looking for a great place to study outside of the library, I recommend the Gold Coast Student Hub. You will be welcomed with open arms and will be surrounded by ‘Good Vibes Only’!
